Welcome to the Class of 2012 eNewsletter
Welcome to the premiere issue of the Class of 2012 eNewsletter! This newsletter aims to provide first-year students with information you need to connect with opportunities and resources around campus. We will do our best to be brief, and provide you only with the relevant information you need. If you ever have questions or suggestions about this newsletter, let us know at fye@umn.edu.

Welcome Week starts next Wednesday, August 27!

  • Commuter Students: Check-in at Williams Arena between 3-4 p.m. where you will meet your Welcome Week Leader.
  • Residence Hall Students: During your move-in you will meet your Community Advisor (CA). Your CA will bring you to Convocation, where you will meet your Welcome Week Leader. Reference your housing materials for move-in details.
  • Optional Events: If you have not already selected your optional events, they will be randomly assigned for you. You will learn more about your Welcome Week schedule during your first small group meeting.
  • If you miss any Welcome Week events on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, your college will follow up with you to determine how you will make up for your absence.

For more specific information about your schedule, parking information and more, visit www.welcomeweek.umn.edu/schedule.

Safety and Security
Safety and security are among the University's top priorities. Everyone has a role to play to ensure campus and personal safety. To find out what you can do to help promote a safe University, visit the University’s Emergency Preparedness Web site today!

Fraternities & Sororities
Fraternities and sororities play a significant role on our campus through their commitment to leadership, scholarship, and service. The experiences and opportunities provided in fraternities and sororities can help you:

  • develop your interpersonal and leadership skills
  • make lifelong friendships
  • participate in community service and philanthropic events

Please go to www.osa.umn.edu/wbg.html to read a letter from Jerry Rinehart, Vice Provost for Student Affairs, inviting you to explore fraternity and sorority life on campus.

Coming to Campus
Whether you are commuting to campus everyday, or just driving to campus to move in to your residence hall, make sure to plan your trip in advance. For the latest information from Parking and Transportation Services, click HERE.

Political Involvement
On September 1, the Republican National Convention (RNC) will commence in St. Paul. Although most of the official convention activities do not take place near campus, the University may be impacted. Accordingly, please leave enough time in your travel plans to and from campus to account for any possible delays. While you are encouraged to engage in the political process, please use good judgment regarding participation in activities that might violate state or local laws or the University’s Student Conduct Code.
