Your Finances
Can you afford that spring break trip?

Financial aid is intended to cover a very modest student lifestyle, including only the basics: tuition and fees, room and board, books, and a small amount for personal expenses such as clothing, haircuts, an occasional movie or dinner out.  Financial aid is NOT intended to pay for a spring break trip.  If you want to go on a spring break trip with your friends, look carefully at your budget and think about how you can cut costs in other areas to help pay for your trip without borrowing money or using a credit card, as then you will pay for the trip and the interest for the money borrowed.

Consider this....

You spend $750 on a spring break trip on your credit card (15% interest rate), and you can only afford to make a required minimum amount payment of $15 dollars a month.  It will take you six and a half years to pay off your trip, and you will have paid $434 dollars additional in interest.  That spring break trip now cost you almost $1,200!

Find more information on spending responsibly, and managing your finances by visiting the money management section of the One Stop Web site.
