Orientation & First-Year Programs offers great leadership and employment opportunities to help develop skills and assist new students in their transition to college. 

Orientation Leader (OL)

The responsibility of the Orientation Leader position is to administer a successful New Student Orientation and Welcome Week, all focused on providing a quality transitional experience for new students.

Welcome Week Leader (WWL)

Are you an undergraduate student looking for an exciting leadership experience? Do you want to help first-year students find their sense of belonging at the University of Minnesota? Then apply to be a Welcome Week Leader!

Transfer Student Ambassador (TSA)

Transfer Student Ambassadors (TSAs) assist Orientation staff in leading Transfer Orientation and Transfer Welcome Days. In this role, TSAs address questions and concerns from transfer students’ and their guests; facilitate campus tours; participate in panel discussions and lead workshops; and host students and lead sessions during Transfer Welcome Days.

Summer Check-in Staff

The Check-In Staff play a crucial role in our office. The responsibilities of this position include checking in students and parents for Orientation and students for Welcome Week.

Office Assistant

The Office Assistant plays a crucial role in our office. The responsibilities of this position include receptionist and information referral point for new students, parents, office staff and University departments.

Communication & Design Intern

The OFYP Communication and Design Intern will assist with many projects related to New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, and other first-year programs. The ideal candidate should possess exceptional graphic design skills, a strong interest in communication strategy, and the desire to build on your experience as a communications professional.

Event Staff

Event Staff is a volunteer team that helps ensure the success of Welcome Week (WW) and Transfer Welcome Days (TWDs) from behind the scenes. Students who have been Welcome Week Leaders or Transfer Student Ambassadors, who want to be involved with OFYP in a different way, have a strength in managing details and logistics, and are committed to the success of new students would make excellent Event Staff members.

Transfer Insider

The Transfer Student Network connects Transfer Insiders to new transfer students to offer advice and stories of their transfer experiences. The Transfer Insiders are transfer students who have made a successful transition to the U of M and are committed to enhancing the transfer student experience.

Student Web Developer

The OFYP Student Web Developer will assist with many technical projects related to New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, and other first-year programs.
