2014 Orientation Leaders

For Your University of Minnesota New Student Orientation

Plan for your arrival at Orientation
For directions and parking information, click here.

Please follow the directions listed on the above Website. DO NOT USE GPS DIRECTIONS, as these routes will be incorrect. Please allow plenty of time for getting to campus, as traffic congestion around campus can happen.

After parking in the East River Road Garage, take the elevator to Level 1/Plaza Level, and go to Coffman Union’s ground floor for Orientation Check-In.

Check-In begins at 7:45 a.m.
Orientation & First-Year Programs works closely with International Student Scholar Services to provide you one orientation program. Please note that you are required to check-in for this orientation between 7:45-8:20 a.m. on the ground floor of Coffman Union. To see a more detailed schedule for your orientation, check out our website. Look for the International Students tab.

Are your parents/family registered for Orientation?
Will a parent or family member accompany you to Orientation? If so, they are encouraged to register in advance for the Parent Orientation program. For more information and registration, click here.

Overnight Accommodations
Students who attend Orientation on August 25-26 AND who have a Fall 2014 on-campus housing contract have the opportunity to move in early on Sunday, August 24, but you must make prior arrangements Housing & Residential Life (HRL). To complete an Early Move-In Request, click here. Students who choose this option will be billed $46 (for Sunday and Monday nights at $23 per night) directly to their student account.
Otherwise there will be no overnight accommodations for this Orientation program.

Before you arrive
Review the Class Selection Tutorial. This will prepare you for your advising appointment so you can register for fall classes.

Be sure to bring the following items!

  • University Internet ID and memorized password
  • Name of health insurance company and policy number (you may purchase University insurance instead)
  • $6.00 per day for parking
  • U Minnesota app iconSmartphone/mobile device and charger (optional if you want to access Class of 2018 orientation materials electronically through U Minnesota)
  • Photo ID for U Card
  • Backpack for your materials
  • Notebook and pen or pencil
  • Comfortable clothing and shoes
  • Umbrella in case of rain
  • Money to buy lunch on Day 2
