Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Minnesota and on your decision to join the Class of 2018! Although your orientation is not until summer, we want to make sure all your questions get answered and that you keep up with all deadlines and expectations from the University.
Join the Class of 2018 Facebook Group
Soon you will receive an invitation (sent to your U of M email account) to join the U of M Class of 2018 Facebook Group. (It will come from Facebook, so you should check your spam folder if you don't see it in your inbox.) This group is intended only for students at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) in the Class of 2018. It is a space to connect with other incoming first-year students. There is no obligation to join.
When is my Orientation?
Orientation is a two-day program required of all new students. Starting April 9, 2014, you will be able to access your New Student Checklist, which will allow you to select your Orientation date, begin placement testing, and many other tasks required to become enrolled. Our office will continue to email important dates and announcements to you, as well as posting that information at myu.umn.edu.
Things to Do
Initiate your University email account
Your University email account is the official method of communication at the U of M. If you haven't already, intitiate your U of M email account and check it on a regular basis at mail.umn.edu. You will need to know your Social Security number, student ID number, and birth date. You will also need to create a password.
Complete the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online
You can apply for financial aid anytime. Information on all types of aid programs is available here.
Complete your Housing Application
