Plan for your arrival at Orientation

Please follow the directions listed on the above Website. DO NOT USE GPS DIRECTIONS, as these routes will be incorrect. Please allow plenty of time for getting to campus, as traffic congestion around campus can happen.
After parking in the East River Road Garage, take the elevator to Level 1/Plaza Level. Then head to Coffman Union’s ground floor for Orientation Check-In.
Check-In begins at 8:15 a.m.
Although you can check-in anytime between 8:15-10 a.m., make sure you plan ahead if you want to attend any of the morning sessions. For a list of these sessions as well as a complete overview of your Orientation schedule, click here.
Attention International Students: Check-In for you will begin at 7:30 a.m.
Are your parents/family registered for Orientation?
Will a parent or family member accompany you to Orientation? If so, they are encouraged to register in advance for the Parent Orientation program and attend on your Day 1. For more information and registration, click here.
Before you arrive
To prepare for your course registration, check out the How To Guides. This will prepare you for your advising appointment so you can register for fall classes.
Have you uploaded your photo for your U Card? Save time at Orientation by uploading the photo you want at z.umn.edu/photoupload.
What to bring
Be sure to bring the following items.
- University Internet ID and memorized password
- Name of health insurance company and policy number (you may purchase University insurance instead)
- $6.00 per day for parking
- Photo ID for U Card
- Backpack for your materials
- Notebook and pen or pencil
- Comfortable clothing and shoes
- Umbrella in case of rain
- Money to buy lunch on Day 2
- Smartphone/mobile device and charger (optional if you want to access Class of 2019 orientation materials electronically through U Minnesota)
