THINGS TO KNOW

Ready to Rewind?
Do you want to meet more people? Make sense of your first year? Help other new students have a smooth transition to the U? Apply to join Rewind! Rewind is a program designed for you to look back through your first semester and share your stories through conversations, pictures, community, and social media. You will work with peers to capture the first-year experience at the U. Questions? Email fyofyp@umn.edu.

Major/Minor Expo – February 8!

Meet with departments from all undergraduate colleges to learn about majors and minors and take the first step toward declaring. No registration required! See website for more details.

First-Year Free Ticket at Northrop
Don’t forget! As a first-year student, you get one FREE ticket to any of the dance season performances at Northrop. Go to the box office and tell them you’re a first-year student, and you can reserve your ticket at any time.

Undergraduate Roommate Finder
Don’t know who you are going to live with next year? Finding your college roommate just got a whole lot easier! Off-Campus Living has launched the UMN Undergraduate Roommate Finder. This free service allows you to search for other UMN students looking for roommates. Check it out!

OFFICE SPOTLIGHT

The SMART Learning Commons has a variety of services to help you feel welcome and make the most of your time at the U. Here are some of the things you can do at SMART’s three locations:

  • Meet with a tutor. Trained consultants with specializations in over 200 courses will meet with you on a drop-in basis or by appointment.
  • Study with classmates. PAL sessions are a great way to meet other students from your class and get extra practice with problems and concepts from the week's lectures.
  • Get research assistance. Trained research consultants help you locate and evaluate sources for your research paper and more.
  • Put together a video. SMART has equipment such as cameras and tripods available to borrow, software for editing, and trained consultants to work with you.

There’s even more! Explore the possibilities at smart.umn.edu.
