Insider Tips for Making the Most of your Experience
Welcome Week can be a ton of fun and you’ll likely make some great college memories, but it can also be overwhelming. As you navigate Welcome Week:
- Be ready to be among over 6,000 people. Every Welcome Week event is going to have quite a few people in attendance. Take care of yourself.
- Be prepared for action-filled days. Wear good shoes, comfortable clothes, and bring water!
- Accept the fact that you're going to have an awkward moment or two. You're meeting new people and that can be awkward sometimes. Embrace the awkward.
- Get to know your Welcome Week small group and your Welcome Week Leader. Use your community to find support in your transition to college.
Student Conduct Code
As a new student to the U of M community you should familiarize yourself with the Student Conduct Code. This code outlines expectations you can have of your experience at the University. It applies to academic and non-academic conduct and to a variety of issues such as scholastic dishonesty, sexual misconduct, bullying, theft, responding to alcohol emergencies, etc. You are held to the standards in this code during Welcome Week (at all events, both on and off campus) and through your tenure at the U. Start your experience on the right track by demonstrating appropriate behavior and encouraging the same from your peers. There are excellent resources outlined in the Class of 2021 guide in U Minnesota. Check them out by clicking on the Safe U link.
