Welcome to the Class of 2019 eNewsletter!
You will receive this newsletter once a month throughout the school year from us, Orientation & First-Year Programs. It will highlight action items that you should complete and resources that will be helpful to your transition. Many of the items listed in this issue are also on your New Student Checklist and outlined in a publication sent to students after they attend Orientation. Since you are scheduled for orientation in August, we want to bring these items to your attention now to ensure a smooth transition.
Welcome Week Event Selection is NOW OPEN!
There are a number of Welcome Week events that you can select. Once you complete this event selection you will receive a confirmation email (to your U of M Internet account) with details about your arrival on campus. You will receive your personal schedule when you check in for Welcome Week at the end of August.
Start here to complete the Welcome Week Event Selection
Important Note: You have until August 26 to adjust your selections. After that, no adjustments can be made to your selections. If you have questions about what you selected, ask your Welcome Week Leaders when you meet them at your first small group meeting on Wednesday, September 2. If you experience technical difficulties with the Welcome Week Event Selection, please contact OFYP during regular office hours.
Take StrengthsFinder® Online
Once you complete Event Selection you will receive a code that will allow you to take StrengthsFinder, an online tool that provides you with your Top 5 talent themes. You will learn how to apply those talents as you connect with others on campus and in your academics, career, experiences, and daily life. You will begin to explore your Top 5 during Welcome Week and into your first year. Be sure to complete StrengthsFinder before you get to campus, and check out strengths.umn.edu. If you have further questions about StrengthsFinder email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Complete AlcoholEdu®, Transit™, and Haven
These three required online courses - AlcoholEdu, Transit, and Haven - have been designed to help you think about making healthy decisions regarding your safety and finances throughout your college career. You will receive an email from Boynton Health Service with additional details on August 4.
Join the Class of 2019 Facebook Group! Follow #UMN19 on Twitter and UMN19 on SnapChat. It’s a great way to connect with other first-year students and to stay on top of your transition to the U.
