Your Academics

The University of Minnesota realizes that one of the key components to academic success is learning how to manage your time properly. Before coming to Welcome Week, it is recommended that you create a schedule of how you will manage your time during the first week of classes. The university recommends that for each hour of classroom instruction you should budget in two hours of time to study and work on classroom assignments. When creating your schedule make sure that you include your course load, time to complete assignments and study, meals, free time to have some fun and relax, and time it will take you to get to and from your classes each day. Utilize the Gopher Guide you received at Orientation, this is a great time management tool!

Your Health & Wellness

Check Out the Student Health Benefit Plan
Now is a good time to compare your health plan coverage options. Students often switch from a parent or spouse’s plan to the University-sponsored Student Health Benefit Plan (SHBP) to save money or because the SHBP offers the most substantial coverage.

Your Finances

Planning your Finances
With just a few weeks left until your college journey begins, now is the perfect time to sit down and plan a budget for fall semester. For many freshmen this will be the first time you will be managing your own finances. Before coming to Welcome Week you should sit down and create a budget with a family member or mentor. Take into account the cost of tuition, housing, text books, incidentals and money for fun activities. For tips on creating a budget and money management visit the One Stop web site.

Your Engagement
