We hope the first few days of classes have gone smoothly and you are starting to feel at home at the U. Here are a few notes and updates to help you kick off your Transfer Student Experience!
Join us for Transfer Welcome Day
Transfer Welcome Day is the official welcome for new transfer students. Join us on Friday, January 23 from 1-4 p.m. in the Mississippi Room, Coffman Union. You you will connect with other transfer students, meet professional staff, learn about campus resources and student organizations, and get answers to last-minute questions. You will also meet the University mascot, Goldy Gopher, and receive a free U of M T-shirt.
Part of your Transfer Student Experience (TSE) includes an email once a month that includes need-to-know information that will help you with your transition. You will learn about important, and timely, resources throughout the semester. Be sure to read the email: It will include announcements about events and information about drawings for prizes.
University Transfer Student Board (UTSB)
Looking to get involved? UTSB plans social events, meets to discuss important issues on campus related to being a transfer student, and provides leadership opportunities for transfers students. Check their meeting calendar for location and topics. Get on the UTSB mailing list - email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Transfer Student Network (TSN)
Join the Transfer Student Network at their Spring Kickoff event in Goldy's Gameroom for free bowling and games on Friday, January 23. TSN connects new transfers to current transfers, called Peer Guides, and facilitates 1-1 meetings and other large social events to help new students during their first semester. Peer Guides provide need-to-know info about making a successful transition to the U, plan fun social gatherings or academic workshops, and help new students connect to the larger U community.
What Are Your Strengths?
You will likely hear the phrase, "What are your Top 5?" around campus. Make sure you are equipped to answer that question! Take the opportunity to take StrengthsFinder, an online tool that provides you with your Top 5 talent themes. As a first semester transfer student you have the opportunity to take it for free. To learn more, visit www.strengths.umn.edu. To request your unique access code and get instructions for how to take StrengthsFinder, fill out this form.
Here’s to having the best year ever!
