Get Ready for Transfer Welcome Days!

Thank you for registering for a Transfer Welcome Days event! Below is some very important information to help you get ready for each day.

GOPHER DAY: Thursday, August 29

PRE-TAILGATE MEET-UP (4:00-5:00 p.m.)

Do I have to attend?
If you plan to attend the football game, you must attend the transfer student meet-up anytime between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for instructions about accessing the game. This will give you an opportunity to meet other new transfer students prior to the game. After 5:00 p.m., you can attend the all-student tailgate in the TCF Bank Stadium parking lot.

Where should I park?
If you are driving to the game, you must park in the East River Road Garage and pay the special event rate of $10. For information about free shuttle buses, click here.

Where will we meet?
The meet-up is located in the southwest grassy area of McNamara Alumni Center, on the corner of Oak Street and Washington Avenue – nearest the light rail construction.

What should I bring?
All new transfer students must have their U Card to check into Transfer Welcome Days events. If you are attending Transfer Orientation on Friday, August 30, please notify the staff at the meet-up. You will receive a FREE waterbottle when you check in.

There are some items you are not allowed to bring into the football stadium, including outside food and beverages. Please carefully read the responses to these frequently asked questions for more information. Once you enter the stadium you will be allowed to fill your waterbottle.

Can I get a free ticket for my friend/family?
Only new U of M transfer students enrolling fall 2013 are able to get into the game at no cost. Please contact the Gopher Sports ticketing office about purchasing extra tickets for friends and family.

MAROON DAY: Friday, August 30

CAMPUS TOURS (5:10 or 6:30 p.m.)

Do I have to attend?
The campus tours are optional, but you do need to register in advance so that we have enough Transfer Student Ambassadors to give tours. If you have not previously registered for a campus tour or would like to change your options, please email transfer@umn.edu by Thursday, August 29, at 3:00 p.m.

Where should I park?
If you are driving to campus, you must park in the East River Road Garage and pay the standard $3 per hour rate. To receive the special night owl rate of $6 total, you must park in the garage after 5:00 p.m. and leave before 7:00 a.m. For detailed information about parking rates, click here.

Where will we meet?
If you have registered for a campus tour, please meet on the front steps of Coffman Memorial Union facing the light rail.

What times are the tours?
All tours, including the shuttle bus tours, will leave at 5:10 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. from Coffman Union.

What should I bring?
You may find it helpful to bring your course schedule and/or a campus map indicating the buildings where your classes will be located. Please wear comfortable shoes, sun screen and/or a hat, and anything you need to protect yourself from the sun and a waterbottle to stay hydrated.

TRANSFER STUDENT MIXER (8:30-10:00 p.m.)

Do I have to attend?
The Mixer is optional, but you do need to register in advance so that we have enough materials and supplies for the activities we have planned. If you have not previously registered for the Mixer, please email transfer@umn.edu by Thursday, August 29, at 3:00 p.m.

NOTE: wristbands for the SUA Showcase will be distributed at this event.

Where should I park?
If you are driving to campus and you are only attending the Mixer, you can receive the special night owl rate of $6 total by parking in the garage after 5:00 p.m. and leaving before 7:00 a.m. For detailed information about parking rates, click here.

Where will we meet?
The Mixer will be located in the Mississippi Room on the third floor of Coffman Memorial Union.

What should I bring?
You must bring your U Card to Check-In. If you are attending Transfer Orientation on Friday, August 30, please notify the staff at the Mixer.

STUDENT UNIONS & ACTIVITIES SHOWCASE
(10:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.)

Do I have to attend?
The Showcase is an optional event for both new freshmen and new transfer students.

Note: if you only plan to attend the Showcase, you must come to the Transfer Student Mixer by 9:45 p.m. to receive a wristband. You will not be permitted to attend the Showcase without a wristband.

Where should I park?
If you are driving to campus and you are only attending the Mixer, you can receive the special night owl rate of $6 total by parking in the garage after 5:00 p.m. and leaving before 7:00 a.m. For detailed information about parking rates, click here.

Where will we meet?
The Showcase will be located throughout Coffman Memorial Union, however all new transfer students must come to the Mississippi Room by 9:45 p.m. to receive the wristband that is required for admission.

What should I bring?
You must bring your U Card to Check-In. If you are attending Transfer Orientation on Friday, August 30, please notify the staff at the Transfer Student Mixer.

GOLD DAY: Saturday, August 31

9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Do I have to attend?
The Gold Day program is optional, however it is the only event at which you’ll receive valuable information about your academic and personal adjustment to the U. If you have not already registered for Gold Day, please email transfer@umn.edu by Friday, August 30, at 3:00 p.m.

Where should I park?
If you are driving to the Gold Day program, you must park in the East River Road Garage and pay the weekend rate of $6 for the entire day. For detailed information about parking rates, click here.

Where will we meet?
Check-In is 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the Great Hall on the ground level of Coffman Memorial Union.

What should I bring?
You must bring your U Card to Check-In for Gold Day and also to attend the Explore U Involvement Fair. Handouts will be provided for you, but you may want to bring a notepad and pen/pencil if you would like to take notes.

General Information

Water Bottles
New Transfer Students who attend any part of Transfer Welcome Days will receive a FREE waterbottle (while supplies last). The weather will be very warm, so please stay well hydrated.

Find out your Top 5 Strengths!
If you plan to attend the Using Your Top 5 Strengths session, please bring the list of your Top 5. If you have not requested a code to take the Strengths assessment, click here to request a unique access code to take StrengthsFinder®. You must request a code by Thursday, August 29, at 3:00 p.m. and complete the assessment before Saturday.

Parents and Guests
All Transfer Welcome Days events are exclusively for new transfer students enrolling fall semester 2013. We are not able to accommodate guests at any OFYP-sponsored events, however your guests are welcomed to purchase tickets to the football game. Click here for more information.
