Hello %%First Name%%!
I would like to introduce myself! My name is Tricia Wan and I will be your Transfer Insider for the semester! What is neat about this program is that the program aims to help new transfer students make a smooth transition to their home on the Twin Cities campus. TSN is a peer program that places new transfers with one of the current "Transfer Insiders" who are here to help you make a successful transition to the U. With that, I would like to hope that everything for you is going well so far with the start of the semester. I know transferring can be a difficult time, trust me. I transferred from China just last year. Overcoming culture shock, language issues, and many other issues were very challenging. I became satisfied with my campus life and would like to help new students, like you, ease the hard transition into U.
A big thing I am sure you hear is "get involved" or "get engaged" on campus. Personally, I will recommend that you find a student group that you are interested in. That is a great way for you to make friends at such a huge university because you guys have similar hobbies or similar concerns. Also, you can pay attention to campus activities on the Student Unions & Activities home page. If you are interested in cultural events, you also could subscribe to the ISSS weekly emails where they have many multicultural activities. Like every Friday afternoon, there is a small world coffee hour at residence halls, where you can learn about new cultures, food and customs with coffee or snacks.
Transfer student programming has been hosting a set of workshops every Friday starting September 15th through October 13th from 12:45-2pm in Appleby Hall 103. More information on the Transfer Workshop Series can be found here. We would love to see you there! I hope you are off to a great start and that your semester continues to go well.
Lastly, I would like to mention that you can email me back directly to set up a time to go to coffee with me – my treat! It’s a great way to connect with me. Stayed turned for emails from me, which will be monthly. Also if you need anything don't hesitate to just shoot me an email! I am your first point of contact for the program and am here for your well being. I will try my best to help you in anyway that's possible.
Here are some helpful links to get you started this semester!
Another great resource that we have on campus is the Center for Academic Planning and Exploration, and they’re launching a great new service this fall! Major Exploration Lab for Transfer Students. Feel like you’re the only undecided transfer student on campus? You’re not the only new transfer student exploring majors, and you shouldn’t have to explore alone. Join the Center for Academic Planning & Exploration (CAPE) for the Major Exploration Lab! This 3-session workshop offered over the course of three weeks is designed specifically for first-semester transfer students. During these hands-on sessions, students will receive guidance, resources, action steps, and most importantly, food! The application is due by October 12th, and can be found here.
