Hello %%First Name%%!

Welcome to your first semester at the University of Minnesota, I’m excited to introduce myself! My name is Callie Barnette and I will be your Transfer Insider this Fall semester. Every new transfer student is assigned a Transfer Insider through the Transfer Student Network. As a Transfer Insider, I will be sharing my personal transfer journey with you as well as some tips and tricks for transitioning to the University of Minnesota!

I am here to make your transition to the U as seamless as possible. Feel free to e-mail me any questions, concerns, or thoughts you may have during this time of transition. Being a transfer student myself, I understand how nerve-wracking of a time this may be for you. I transferred from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN in the Fall of 2015. I remember feeling anxious, a little unsure, but mostly excited about all of the opportunities the U had to offer. I came to the U not 100% sure what I wanted to major in and where I wanted this journey to take me, but now I can say with confidence that I have found a home here as well as the right path to carry me through the rest of my college years. I am a Youth Studies major in the College of Education and Human Development. I am also involved with TSN, Transfer Student Ambassadors, and Greek life. And let’s not forget that I am an avid lover of all things Twin Cities!

In your first few weeks here, I encourage you to get involved. This is something I am sure you are hearing a lot, so you may be thinking "where do I even start?" I attended Transfer Welcome Days, and participated in the Leaders in Transition Living Learning Community. I met many people those first few days.Attending the first football game (for FREE!) solidified the fact that I had chosen the right school. Even though Transfer Welcome Days have passed, there are still plenty of ways to get out of your comfort zone and find your niche. Check out the Campfire Kickoff on September 10th at Coffman. This would be a great way to meet someone new while enjoying a fall bonfire.

You will also be receiving the TSE Monthly newsletter via email these first four weeks that will be packed full of events and information exclusively for transfer students. Keeps your eyes out for that as well as other posters, flyers, and social media updates!

All of us Transfer Insiders will be hosting coffee chats for anyone interested. Whether you have questions or simply want to connect with a fellow transfer student, please feel free to contact me directly to set up a time for one of us Insiders to take you out to coffee - our treat! I hold office hours on Tuesday's from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and would love to chat with you about your transition. TSN will also be hosting a set of workshops every Friday starting September 16th from 1-2 p.m.in Coffman 324. We would love to see you there!

I hope you are off to a great start and that your semester continues to go well. I look forward to hearing back from you and grabbing some coffee.

In Gopher Pride,

Callie Barnette
