Hello %%First Name%%!
This is Ernie, your Transfer Insider. I am emailing you to introduce myself and also tell you a little bit about why I am emailing you today. Transfer Student Network is a resource offered by the Orientation & First-Year Programs office. The program connects new transfer students to current transfer students (a.k.a. Transfer Insiders). You can use your Transfer Insider to answer questions, help connect you with the U of M community, and/or as a general resource throughout the semester.
To tell you a little bit about myself, I am currently a junior, majoring in Biology and I transferred from Normandale Community College. One of my favorite ways to get involved with the U of M community, aside from Gopher Game Days, are through on-campus jobs. On-campus jobs made it possible for me to make money and feel connected to the U community. An on campus job I personally took advantage of is becoming a Transfer Student Ambassador (TSA). The TSA position gave me the opportunity to be a part of an amazing team; I met some of my best friends from this position. Aside from being paid to work with amazing people, I was also able to meet and talk with many new transfer students and be a part of their first experience at the U. Another position I really value is my role as a Transfer Insider! Through the variety of jobs and programs the U offers to its transfer students, I was able to make the U my home. I hope you are able to find your niche on campus whatever that might be.
As a transfer student in Fall 2015, I can still remember what it was like to transfer and the many challenges (and successes) that come with it. I’m sure you might be facing the same mix of emotions and worries as I did when I transferred. So feel free to email me any questions or worries you might have. Also, this semester a new addition has been added to the program and it comes with FREE coffee. You are now able to make a coffee appointment with any Transfer Insider and just talk. To make an appointment, contact the Orientation & First-Year Programs office at 612-624-1979 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Also, if you are like me, and getting around campus is a worry for you, feel free to make an appointment for coffee and I would be more than happy to show you around campus and ways to navigate it.
I know I have thrown a few things at you so here are some quick links and information that might be helpful as you are starting your first semester here on campus.
Wishing you the best first semester!
