Welcome New Transfer Students

Congratulations on your decision to attend the University of Minnesota. It is our goal to make your transfer transition as seamless and possible. Please review the information below, take action on these items, and let us know if you have any questions along the way. We look forward to meeting you at Orientation in January!

Complete Your New Student Checklist!
Before you are able to register for class at the University of Minnesota, you must complete your New Student Checklist. Each college has its own checklist.

You will have additional checklist items based on your college but checklist items that all students need to complete include:

  • Initiate Your U of M Email: www.umn.edu/initiate
Email is the official means of communication for the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Reminders about orientation, your financial aid award letter, and college updates are just some of the information sent to your U of M email so, make sure you check it often. If you need assistance retrieving your Internet ID or resetting your password, call 612-301-4357.
  • Complete your Pre-Orientation Survey
This survey will provide your academic adviser with specific information about you and your expectations. Your adviser will use this information to help you register for classes at On-Campus Orientation. This survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
  • Participate in Online Orientation
Online Orientation is now available. All new students are required to complete Online Orientation prior to your On-Campus Orientation date. Online Orientation will provide you with important information about academic policies, degree requirements, and University resources.
  • Secure your On-Campus Orientation Date
Orientation occurs between January 6-13, 2012. For more information about your Orientation day, click here. If by December 1 you have not received information about securing your Orientation date, contact your college of enrollment.
