Costs & Registration
Registration for Parent Orientation will be available later this Spring.
Parent Orientation Registration:
The Parent Orientation program has two components allowing you to choose your level of participation. Our day program includes lunch, a full day of workshops to assist you through this transition, and helpful materials at the cost of $25 per participant. If you would like to attend Orientation on the same day as your student, you will need your student's Orientation dates in order to register. We look forward to seeing you on campus this summer!
For parents planning on staying the night in the Twin Cities, we are happy to offer an optional evening program. This very popular option includes dinner in the Campus Club (a private club featuring magnificent views at the top of Coffman Union) and a scenic 2-hour trolley tour of Minneapolis. Highlights of the narrated tour include: The Stone Arch Bridge, Theater District, Nicollet Mall, Walker Sculpture Garden, Chain of Lakes, and the Uptown Neighborhood. The cost of the evening dinner and trolley ride is $30 per person. (Space is limited, so be sure to register ASAP.)
Registration for Parent Orientation and/or the Evening Parent Program can be done by:
- Registering Online
- Mailing in a registration form with payment. This registration form is found in the Orientation newsletter sent with your orientation information from your College.
- Fax your registration with payment information, using the registration form referenced above.

A few helpful reminders about Parent Orientation registration:
• Registration for Parent Orientation is separate from arrangements your student needs to make for New Student Orientation.• You must know your student’s orientation dates in order to register if you will be coming the same day as your student. Otherwise, you are encouraged to attend the Saturday, July 12 program.
• If you cannot attend Parent Orientation on your student's assigned Orientation dates or on Saturday, July 12, but would still like to attend Parent Orientation, please call Orientation & First-Year Programs at (800) 234-1979 or (612) 624-1979.
• If you need to change your Parent Orientation date after you have already registered, please inform our office at (800) 234-1979 or (612) 624-1979. Note: If your student changes his or her date, you will also need to change your date with our office.
• Please indicate special dietary needs on the registration form and if you have a disability and need accommodations to attend Orientation, contact Disability Services at 612-626-1333 (v/tty) or ds@umn.edu.
Receipt Letter
After registering, you will receive a receipt letter via mail or email (if you provide us with your email address upon registration) with your registration summary and more detailed information regarding Parent Orientation.
