Transfer Students

Leaders in Transition: Transfer House

Application deadline is May 1.

The Leaders in Transition living & learning community gives transfer students an opportunity to live together in a residence hall with others who share similar interests in leadership development and civic engagement, while taking a three-credit leadership course during the fall semester.

Is Leaders in Transition right for me?

If you are a motivated transfer student who cares about social justice and civic engagement, wants to develop leadership potential through a leadership course, and live on campus with like-minded transfer students, Leaders in Transition may be a good fit for you!

Live:

Once accepted to the program, students will live together in Centennial Hall on the East Bank of the Minneapolis Campus. Centennial has a dining hall located in the building and offers many amenities (see description on the Housing and Residential Life Web page).

Learn:

Through a course in common…
Every student in the Leaders in Transition living & learning community will enroll in a 3-credit leadership course, Personal Leadership in the University. This course is the introductory course in the undergraduate Leadership Minor.

Through reflection and personal development…
The course will help students develop personal leadership skills, understand your own values and goals, and find out how to create social change. The course format is discussion-based, and very reflective.

Who is eligible?

Students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • New transfer students admitted to the Twin Cities campus for fall 2008
  • Students who have an interest in developing their leadership skills and becoming involved in the community around them
  • Students who want to live on-campus for the 2008-09 academic year

How do I apply?

Apply online!

Note: Leaders in Transition is not for first-year students and is a reserved space program through Housing & Residential Life. Please be aware that this program is not merely a housing option for transfer students. Students who are looking for general housing options should work with the Housing and Residential Life office for guidance on on-campus or off-campus housing options. If admitted into the program, students will need to pay an additional guaranteed housing fee once a room has been assigned to them. More information about this will be provided at a later date. Orientation & First-Year Programs is responsible for running the course component and learning outcomes of the living & learning community. All housing-related questions and concerns must be directed to Housing and Residential Life at 612-624-2994.
