Preparing for Orientation

arrowsBefore you come to on-campus Orientation, you need to prepare ahead of time. Review the information on this page to make sure you are ready to attend Orientation and register for classes!

Orientation Checklist

  • Confirm your enrollment to the University of Minnesota by submitting their enrollment confirmation form and fee of $70 to the Office of Admissions ASAP.

  • Activate your University of Minnesota e-mail account - www.umn.edu/initiate. E-mail is the University’s official form of communication and you are expected to check this account on a regular basis. You will also use this Internet ID to access Online Orientation, the MyU Web Portal and more.
  • Complete any requirements set by your college including placement testing.
  • Complete the two sections (your college and U of M information) of Online Orientation if you would like to shorten your on-campus Orientation program.
  • Complete the Class Selection Tutorial in preparation for registration.
  • Send all appropriate documents and attend to any requests made by your college including:

Bring to Orientation

  • University internet ID and memorized password
  • Name of your health insurance company and policy number
  • $6.00 for parking
  • Umbrella in case of rain
  • Photo ID for U Card
  • Notebook and pen or pencil
